Direct pathways to official state insurance information when you have questions about a company, policy, claim, delay, denial, or complaint.

Updated September 2026 · Technical review: ARS Restoration & Reconstruction

This is a referral guide, not legal or coverage advice. The Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) regulates insurance in Washington and provides consumer assistance. ARS is a restoration contractor and does not act for the OIC.

Start with the Washington OIC

Ask an insurance question

Use the OIC consumer resources or call its insurance consumer hotline for help understanding the regulatory process.

Prepare before you contact the OIC

  • Your full name and preferred contact information.
  • Insurance company and agent names, policy number, and claim number.
  • A short chronological summary: what happened, when you notified the insurer, key responses, and the current unresolved issue.
  • Copies of relevant letters, emails, estimates, photos, payment explanations, denial or limitation letters, and policy pages.
  • The specific outcome or explanation you are requesting.

Keep originals. Remove unrelated sensitive information where appropriate, and submit only through the OIC’s official channels.

When the issue is not an insurance-regulator question

  • Immediate danger or crime: call 911 or the appropriate local authority.
  • Building safety: contact the local building official, fire marshal, utility, engineer, or other qualified authority.
  • Contractor licensing: use Washington Labor & Industries contractor lookup and complaint resources.
  • Legal rights or deadlines: consult a qualified attorney. The OIC can explain its consumer-assistance process but does not serve as your lawyer.
  • Restoration scope: ask the contractor to explain observed conditions, proposed methods, documentation, pricing basis, and authorizations.

Keep the technical record separate

ARS can provide condition photos, mitigation documentation, moisture or cleaning records, scopes, estimates, and invoices for work it performs. Those records support clear communication but do not establish coverage.

Sources, scope, and review

Review note: Prepared September 2026. Official links and phone availability can change; confirm details on the OIC website. This resource is educational. It does not replace instructions from emergency services, building officials, medical professionals, your insurer, legal counsel, an engineer, or an environmental professional. ARS does not determine insurance coverage.
