This week we were asked to come out and assess a water damage  in Vancouver Washington, that had originated in an neighbors home. This unique situation had developed as a result of the uphill neighbors main water line rupturing in the ground, by the time the broken line had been discovered, our clients house had been extensively damaged. This type of loss where water makes contact with soil is classified as a category 3 loss. The ground contains bacteria that then contaminates the water, in essence, the water is the same as sewage. Category 3 losses require the material inside the home to be contaminated to such an extent that the material must be removed. All drywall, flooring, insulation, cabinetry, etc.... must be removed as they have dangerous bacteria on them/in them.

In this particular situation our recommendations were to remove all contaminated surfaces... basically the entire first floor up the walls 1 foot. A comprehensive drying plan was submitted.

Smoke Damage Restoration Portland Oregon (published on 2/4/2010)

Today we responded to a restaurant in Portland OR who had requested SMOKE ODOR REMOVAL. A pot of chicken had accidentally been left on the stove all night. This type of smoke damage source is considered a protein fire. Protein smoke is the worst smelling in my opinion. In this particular situation a thorough cleaning of all areas with a wet method of cleaning, followed by a seal and paint on all effected areas. The furniture all needs to be cleaned, and the HVAC system must be cleaned and re-odorized.  To conclude the service for this project we will place ozone machines in the restaurant to deodorize the facility.
